Donnel Baird, BlocPower: Bringing energy savings to the block
Donnel Baird's startup BlocPower markets, finances, and installs solar and energy efficiency technology to slash energy costs and carbon emissions for houses of worship, non-profits, small businesses, and multifamily housing. BlocPower provides communities of color and financially underserved neighborhoods customer education, engineering, and financing to get them low-cost clean energy. Backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Kapor Capital, BlocPower works with the U.S. Department of Energy to connect investors to energy efficiency projects in American inner cities.
President Obama's Clean Power Plan is one of the most important commitments to climate change mitigation that is possible. It reduces our reliance on fossil fuels and incentivizes the development of clean energy technologies. Now we need to make sure that communities of color learn to own and operate the technologies deployed in the clean energy revolution.
