Last weekend, Green For All Academy Fellows Zakiya Harris and Ambessa Cantave hosted the second annual Grind for the Green - a Solar-Powered Hip Hop Concert in San Francisco.
Grind for the Green is the first ever eco-hip hop concert for youth, by youth. The show brought together local hip hoppers for a day of music, dancing, and education about the green economy.
Five youth performers competed for a $1000 prize, including Green For All intern and local emcee, Markese Bryant (aka Doo Dat). The award went to Hunters Point emcee Tre Pound.
The chilly weather in downtown San Francisco gave way to sunshine, thawed by the powerful performers who were on fire with positive messages about the green movement.
Local rap star Mr. FAB and the acclaimed Dead Prez closed out the day with conscious music that got the whole crowd bouncing.
