In Nashville, Green-Collar Task Force Recommends Equitable Flood Recovery

Record-setting, thousand-year floods in May ravaged communities in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Kentucky, killing 31 people. In Nashville, the flooding has caused more than $1.5 billion in damage and claimed 19 lives. Though many Americans still don't know about the flooding, it may be one of the most expensive natural disasters in U.S. history.

Though many Americans still don't know about the flooding, it may be one of the most expensive natural disasters in U.S. history.
Now local leaders are showing the way forward from this tragedy to a safer, healthier future. The Green-Collar Jobs Task Force of Nashville-Davidson County — a coalition of activists, advocates, and residents concerned with fighting environmental degradation and poverty — is calling on the Nashville community to consider ten recommendations for an equitable flood recovery. Among other things, the task force wants to see an emphasis on urban watershed management, weatherization, and local and equitable hiring. Check out the full list of their recommendations.
