Oakland Green Youth Arts & Media Center Solar Panel Install with Sungevity

On 10/10/10, people all over the world will get together to do projects that cut carbon and celebrate climate solutions. Oakland-based solar company, Sungevity has generously donated solar panels to be installed by volunteers on Oakland's Green Youth Arts & Media Center to celebrate the occasion, and to show that Oakland is a leader in solving environmental challenges, as well as answering the call to serve our low income youth.

This Sunday, a team of Sungevity installers will get on the roof of the Green Youth Arts & Media Center. Work will begin at 10 am. Press event at 4pm with speakers including founders of Sungevity, The Green Youth Arts & Media Center and Green For All.

The Green Youth Arts & Media Center is a base for creative and economic empowerment in Oakland that supports personal, professional and community development. They serve youth impacted by violence and poverty through innovative programs in the arts, media production, and environmental sustainability. The first of its kind in the country, the Center is a collaborative initiative between several veteran youth organizations including Art in Action, Grind for the Green, Colored Ink, and the Community Rejuvenation Project.

Sungevity's installers have been answering the call across the globe. Just this week they were invited to install solar panels on President Nasheed's residence in the Maldives, one of the regions where rising sea levels are expected to cause mass evacuation in the next decade or so. Also this week, the White House announced that it would go solar after all, after months of badgering by Sungevity and 350.org. Sungevity is now focusing on the homefront, helping a great organization in their hometown of Oakland go solar as part of the 10/10/10 Global Work Party.
