Philadelphia Begins 25-year Green Water Jobs Program

The city of Philadelphia has long been an innovator when it comes to green jobs. On Wednesday, the city became a lot closer of becoming what Mayor Michael Nutter calls "the greenest city in America."

That's because the city won approval for a $2 billion green infrastructure plan for stormwater management. This "Green City, Clean Waters" 25-year plan, a national model, invests in green roofs, porous pavement, green streets and other solutions to slow water runoff and improve water quality. And of course, there will be lots of green jobs that come from that work.

Green for All believes that Philadelphia's innovative green infrastructure plans are a ‘win-win' proposition: not only do they achieve water quality goals in a cost-effective, community-supporting manner, but they also have the opportunity to create good, family-sustaining jobs in the Philadelphia region.
