President Obama Announces Opposition to Prop 23
As reported by the Los Angeles Times: "The president is opposed to Prop. 23 -- a veiled attempt by corporate polluters to block progress towards a clean energy economy," White House spokesman Adam Abrams announced Wednesday. "If passed, the initiative would stifle innovation, investment in R&D and cost jobs for the state of California."
The Los Angeles Times has wonderful news for those concerned about climate change in California - and throughout the nation - President Obama has announced his opposition to Prop 23.

"The president is opposed to Prop. 23 -- a veiled attempt by corporate polluters to block progress towards a clean energy economy," White House spokesman Adam Abrams announced Wednesday. "If passed, the initiative would stifle innovation, investment in R&D and cost jobs for the state of California."
But it is not just about the Golden State. Abrams added, "The impacts could affect us all. If successful, corporate special interests will set their sights nationwide."
Proposition 23, the Dirty Energy Proposition, would halt the implementation of Assembly Bill 32, a ground-breaking measure that will regulate carbon dioxide emissions in California in an attempt to slow the dire, still-preventable impacts of climate change. Were Prop 23 to pass, not only would these emissions continue at their current rate, adding to the climate change challenge, but the still-growing clean energy marketplace would suffer a serious setback, endangering many of the tens of thousands of jobs it now supplies.
The President's announcement sends a bold statement: he will stand up for efforts to contain the damage caused by carbon dioxide. We applaud his leadership on this issue.
