May is a big month. By May 12th your state will submit its plans on two key green job opportunities - the State Energy Program and the Weatherization Assistance Program. May 26th is the deadline on Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants. Taken together these three programs account for more than $11 billion in green jobs potential.

Take a look at pages 14-16 of our "Bringing Home the Green Recovery" User's Guide for some tips on what to ask for (Advocacy Hooks) in these plans.

In this edition of Recovery Alerts, we've got a new video to inspire Recovery action, news about grassroots action happening on the WAP, and a great resource from Cool Cities to help you advocate on the EECBG.

1. RESOURCE: Activist Toolkit for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants

May 26th is the deadline for your state to submit their plan on spending Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants. To help activists work with their local government to bring these funds into their communities, our friends on the Cool Cities staff have created "Bringing Recovery Funds Home: An Activist Toolkit for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants." Please take action today on this historic opportunity.

2. VIDEO: 5 Steps to a Green Recovery For All

Our very own Julian Mocine-McQueen breaks down the five steps to taking action locally in this new video.

3. RESOURCE: Minutes from our call with Green Recovery For All Action Hosts

4. NEWS: Local Advocates push to improve state Weatherization plans by May 12th deadline

For the past three weeks local green job advocates have worked to improve state Weatherization plans across the country. People have testified or submitted public comments toward a Green Recovery For All in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Florida, and California. Our primary recommendations on these Weatherization plans due May 12th are:

  • Use the added weatherization capacity to improve the quantity and quality of jobs created
  • Develop more robust career pathways for workers to gain additional skills training and connections to careers in the building trades
  • Bundle weatherization work in specific areas in order to create economies of scale
  • Allow for weatherization of multi-family housing, which will create more jobs and allow for larger energy savings

Stay tuned next week for more Recovery news and resources including info related to the EECBG deadline of May 26th and an upcoming conference call the week of May 18th.
