Representative Fudge Introduces “Let’s Grow” Act, Aimed at Fighting Hunger & Promoting Urban Agriculture

Representative Marcia Fudge (D-OH) introduced a bill this week aimed at feeding the roughly 45 million Americans who suffer from hunger.

The Let’s Grow Act of 2012 (PDF link) is an innovative and unique approach to urban agriculture. Let's Grow promotes access to healthy and affordable local produce to combat hunger and decrease obesity, especially among children, seniors and low-income Americans.

The Let’s Grow Act will:

  • Provide incentives for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables with food assistance programs.
  • Encourage food production on vacant land that can be used to grow fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Improve water quality in urban areas, promoting energy efficiency, and grants to develop and implement urban agricultural workforce training programs.

You can help the effort to fight hunger by sending a clear message to Congress that urban communities deserve increased access to healthy and affordable food, while expanding their local economies.
