As seen this morning on MSNBC:
Say “No” to Junk Mail
- You waste about 70 hours a year dealing with junk mail
- Catalog Choice, maintained by the Ecology Center in Berkeley, provides a free service that lets consumers identify catalogs they don’t want and it notifies the merchants directly. Visit www.catalogchoice.org for more information
Clean Your Dryer’s Lint Screen
- Cleaning out your dryer's lint screen after each load is an easy way to save energy and reduce fire hazard
- Believe it or not, a dirty lint filter can cause your dryer to use as much as 30% more energy
Wash in Cold Water
- According to the US Department of Energy, as much as 90% of the energy used to wash clothes in a conventional machine is used for heating the water
- For an individual, washing an average of three loads every week, the total savings will be about twenty seven dollars a year. For a family of four, the savings are closer to eighty or one hundred dollars, depending on how much laundry is washed
Retrofit Your Home
- A typical U.S. family spends about $1900/year on home utility bills
- Simple, relatively low-cost measures such as air sealing, insulation, and lighting and appliance upgrades can reduce a building's energy use by 30% or more
TAKE ACTION - Tell your Senators: Swiftly pass a comprehensive climate-energy bill and move America towards economic prosperity and a cleaner, healthier future for all!
