People often ask me what the environment has to do with poverty, and why communities of color are getting so active in the fight against climate change. Today, we released a new video that says it all.

This Video Says It All.

People often ask me what the environment has to do with poverty, and why communities of color are getting so active in the fight against climate change.

Today, we released a new video that says it all.

Watch A New Sound

A New Sound communicates both the pain of the old economy, and the promise of the new. It illustrates why the Senate must pass bold climate legislation this fall, and why we need a vibrant movement based in low-income communities and communities of color.

It is a moving depiction of why we need an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.

Watch the video and take action. Then share it with your friends and family.

GOING GREEN

Posted by LONNIE at Aug 28, 2009 12:32 PM
I HAVE HEARD THAT SOME STATES PAY THOSE THAT HAVE SOLAR, AND PUT BACK INTO THE SYSTEM THEIR EXTRA POWER THAT THEY DO NOT USE. IS CALIF. GOING TO DO THIS IN THE FUTURE? IT IS A GOOD IDEA, TO GET MORE PEOPLE TO GO SOLAR, AND EVERYBODY WINS. I INSTALLED SOLAR PANELS, A WELL, SEPTIC TANKS, DOUBLE PANED WINDOWS, INSULATION, AND I AM PUTTING MORE POWER BACK INTO PG&E'S POCKET THAN I USE, AND I HAVE TO PAY THEM TO DO IT. I AM NOW A PRODUCER OF POWER, AND I AM BEING PENALISED FOR DOING IT. IS THERE ANY HOPE FOR ME?

Lonnie, Here is PG&E's system to buy excess power from solar, wind and other renewable generation methods. It's called Net Metering.

Net energy metering is a type of Distributed Generation that allows customers with an eligible power generator to offset the cost of their electric usage with energy they export to the grid. A specially programmed “net meter” will be installed to measure the difference between electricity the customer purchases and exports to the grid. The methods of applying credit for exported energy vary with the program.

Check it out. You should not be paying to give them energy.
