DC Allies Welcome Green For All’s New Executive Director, Nikki Silvestri
On Wednesday, April 9, 2014, Green For All’s Board of Directors hosted a reception to introduce new Executive Director Nikki Silvestri to DC allies including Members of Congress, representatives from the Obama Administration, and national and progressive leaders.
Actor, activist and Green For All Board Member Lamman Rucker served as Master of Ceremonies. Congressman Keith Ellison, Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, introduced Nikki to a full crowd of some of GFA’s strongest supporters. The Congressman gave a rousing introduction and called on Nikki to continue to hold him and other elected officials accountable. “We need someone to say we’ve got to be doing more,” said the Congressman.
Ali Zaidi, Deputy Director for Energy Policy at the White House Domestic Policy Council and Hilary Shelton, NAACP’s Senior Vice President for Advocacy and Director for the organization’s Washington Bureau, provided additional remarks. They shared gracious words on the importance of GFA’s work and the close partnerships we’ve been able to build on behalf of people of color and low-income communities. Congresswoman Barbara Lee provided an uplifting video greeting, enthusiastically offering support to Nikki as she leads GFA into its future.
Nikki was deeply moved by the warm welcome. She shared GFA’s new vision that will be rooted in investing in our key strengths: the thousands of people across the country – in and beyond our network – who want to help build an equitable green future. Nikki closed her remarks embracing that we have a lot of work to do, but was energized by the support offered by the partners in the room and concluded that, “together, we can do great work.”
