Gov. Steve Beshear came to Bowling Green on Friday to join many local
organizations in promoting energy efficiency and environmentally
friendly jobs.
Their plan worked - at least on Shaun Bradley and his family.
Bradley,
a resident of the Phenix Place complex owned by the Housing Authority
of Bowling Green, came to the housing authority’s office on Double
Springs Road with his 6-year-old son Jalen, 6-month-old daughter Macee
and girlfriend Octavia Mason. They joined other residents and dozens of
children from the housing authority’s Learning Centers who were
listening to Bowling Green-based rap group Nappy Roots. That group
performed along with children from the Learning Centers, while a number
of local organizations handed out information on “green” jobs and tips
on saving energy, or showed off more efficient products.
Beshear arrived Friday morning to kick off “Green the Block Day,” part of a nationwide initiative sponsored by the White House. Its purpose is to teach simple energy-saving tips, such as unplugging unused appliances and turning off water faucets, said Carrie Barnette, special projects director for the housing authority.
