Report touts green investment: 2,920 jobs could be created in northern Ohio
Investing $290 million in clean energy projects would create 2,920 jobs around northern Ohio, according to a new report.
LORAIN — Investing $290 million in clean energy projects would create 2,920 jobs around northern Ohio, according to a new report.
A
group of public interest groups released the data yesterday to show how
investing in retrofitting buildings and in public transportation would
help Ohio's 13th Congressional District. That area, represented by Rep.
Betty Sutton, D-Copley, includes parts of Lorain County, including the
cities of Lorain and Elyria, with parts of Medina, Cuyahoga and Summit
counties.
"It's clearer than ever that investment in a clean
energy economy will create pathways to prosperity for millions of
Americans, especially in low-income communities," said Shanelle Smith,
Ohio coordinator of the Apollo Alliance, one of the groups involved in
the studies. "Moving to clean energy can be a driving force for
economic growth and protecting the environment."
The new
investment would create 1,305 jobs for workers with high school degrees
or less, according to the report compiled by the Political Economy
Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts.
