There is no more critical function for a government to play than protecting the health and safety of its citizens.

Standards to keep pollutants out of our air and water - protections that have been proven to save lives and keep children healthy - are not simply chips on a poker table to be played. We're certainly heartened by the Administration's statement that they oppose efforts to tie a massive attack on the EPA to budget negotiations. Americans need to know that their President will stand up for their health and quality of life. And the President should know that Americans will stand with him in fighting for those protections.
