Samjulien Carlisle graduated from Calvin Coolidge HS in Washington DC. He is currently a junior psychology major at Alabama A&M University. He has a lifelong passion for soccer and played for the Alabama A&M soccer team during the 2009-2011 seasons. Being a former soccer captain, he understands the importance of teamwork, hard work and dedication. Samjulien is new to the environmental movement and excited about his new journey.

AAMU Ambassadors Nara McCray and Samjulien Carlisle launched a campaign to expose members of their student body to the problems caused by water scarcity. Their efforts were recognized at the Clinton Global Initiative University. Watch the video here.

Miranda J. Garcia is a rising sophomore at Claflin University majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She was born in San Diego, California and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Her family currently resides in Newnan, Georgia. She has aspirations of attending medical school and becoming a Pulmonologist, a medical doctor that specializes in diseases of the respiratory tract and asthma. Her ultimate goal is to have an active private practice before the age of 30.

Cydnie Melson is a rising sophomore at Clark Atlanta University, studying Business Administration with a concentration in supply chain. She is excited to become a Green for All College Ambassador for the 2013-14 academic school year to encourage fellow students and other young people to follow their dreams and to help them become the future leaders they are meant to be. She looks forward to helping others engage their college campuses and become environmental innovators. After graduation, Ms. Melson would like to pursue a career in communication management, focusing on black and ethnic media. Her dream job would be to lead communication strategy and programming at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Network.

Brianna was a true pioneer in the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Green Movement. She influenced countless lives through her work, organizing workshops and recycling competitions, and speaking to groups of people around the country about sustainability. Brianna lived by the motto “Green Is the New Black.”  She held a strong belief that we should all make healthier choices to sustain ourselves, our communities, and the planet that sustains all of us.

Brianna was a San Francisco native finishing her senior year at Clark Atlanta University where she studied Fine Arts with a concentration in General Studio.

Tragically, on Dec. 27, 2012, Brianna was killed in a car accident in Oakland.

Janica Johnson hails from Annapolis, Maryland. Currently, she is a junior at Clark Atlanta University studying Public Relations and Philosophy. Ms. Johnson is a proud member of Sigma Alpha Pi Chapter of The National Leadership and CAU sustainability council. As a Green for All College Ambassador, she hope to provide her community with the information needed to provide them with the basic necessities to live a much longer and healthier life.

CAU Ambassadors Janica Johnson and Brianna Ford helped to develop a culture of recycling by getting their campus to compete in the Recycle Mania challenge— an annual eight-week recycling competition between more than 600 colleges and universities across the United States.

Vicky Valera is a rising senior at Clark Atlanta University, where she is a Dean’s List scholar. Ms. Valera holds many active leadership positions on campus. She is the chapter president of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority incorporated, as well as the public relations chair of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Spanish Club president, member of the NAACP, and soccer team co-captain. She plans to attend law school upon graduation in the Spring of 2013. Her goal is to open her own law firm in the United States and later open a law firm in her home town of San Cristobal, Palenque, Dominican Republic.

Courtney Strickland is a junior marine biology major with a minor in Chemistry at Elizabeth City State University. She is also the founder and president of ECSU’s Green Council and Director of Sustainability for CRC. She hopes to reach those that aren’t fully aware of their potential. Going green just isn’t a saying for her it’s a life style and she plan to keep it that way! Through her dedication and motivation she hopes to reach others.

Ryan Lawrence is a junior chemistry major at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), located in Elizabeth City, NC. He is a researcher at the Center of Excellence for Remote Sensing Education and Research, where his focuses include water quality and glaciology. His memberships include: the American Geophysics Union, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Geosciences and Remote Sensing Society, ECSU’s Green Council (Co-Founder and Vice President), and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., by way of the Beta Zeta Chapter where he serves as Vice President.

ECSU College Ambassadors Courtney Strickland and Ryan Lawrence hosted a campus wide event called “Green The Block” which joins on-campus organizations with off-campus organizations to address environmental issues affecting their community.

Darius A. Stanton II is a 19 year old male from Bowie, Maryland who is currently a sophomore at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. At Claflin University, Darius is studying environmental science. In the future he plans to become an environmental lawyer, which will lead him into his career as an international activist.

Claflin Ambassadors Miranda Garcia and Darius Stanton worked to conduct a light audit on one of Claflin’s buildings and worked to ensure that students were deeply engaged in Claflin University’s efforts to become more sustainable.

International student D.A. Robin covered environment, public policy and development for newspapers as a reporter on his native St. Maarten before attending Florida A&M. There, Robin saw first-hand the consequences of poor environmental policy, and befriended several men and women who were fighting to reverse the damage. Since starting at FAMU in January 2011, Robin has joined the university’s Green Coalition (FGC), a student group that champions sustainability and environmental livelihood among FAMU students, and Tallahassee in general. He also serves as Multimedia/Online Editor for The FAMUAN, the university’s student-run newspaper. Robin hopes to pool his experience as a journalist, photographer and actor to advocate the green economy and environmental justice movements. He looks forward to being the voice through which FAMU students can channel their worries about the environment as one of FAMU’s Green 4 All Ambassadors 2011-2012. For fun, Robin skates, sketches, writes and takes pictures. He is also developing his skills in the kitchen.
