Food
America’s food industry is one of the most productive in the world. But the industry also places our health and and environment at risk. Obesity and diabetes rates are on the rise. There are more than 50 million people in the U.S. who live in homes where access to food is not secure. African American and Latino households are amongst the most vulnerable. Agricultural runoff is the biggest source of pollution in our rivers and lakes. And the industry promotes some of the most dangerous and exploitative labor practices in the country.
The good news is that communities across the country are addressing the food crisis in innovative ways.
